Alabama Medical Cannabis Packaging & Labeling - Snapshot 📋

Alabama’s medical cannabis packaging and labeling standards are established by the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission (AMCC) under the Darren Wesley “Ato” Hall Compassion Act. The essentials below summarize what licensees must do to stay compliant.

For full, official language, see the AMCC rules linked in the 'Where To Verify' section.

What Your Package Must Include
  • Child‑resistant and tamper‑evident packaging.
  • Clear identification of the processor, the type of product (e.g., tablet, tincture, patch), and count/amount in the package.
  • Lot and batch numbers; the cultivator’s name and license ID; and the processor’s name and license ID.
  • Cannabinoid content and potency (e.g., THC/CBD per serving or package).
  • The AMCC‑approved universal state symbol, in color, ≥ 0.5 in x 0.5 in.
  • The warning “Keep out of reach of children.”
  • A QR code/digital image that interfaces with the Statewide Seed‑to‑Sale Tracking System
  • A boxed warning (on label or insert if space is limited) that includes impairment, alcohol, machinery/vehicle, medication‑interaction, and pregnancy/breastfeeding cautions as specified by AMCC.
What Your Package/Label Cannot Do
  • Do not use designs or branding that are attractive to minors (e.g., cartoons, toys, characters, candy‑like imagery).
  • Do not make false statements or advertise health/therapeutic benefits
  • Ensure label text is securely affixed and legible to the average patient/caregiver (clear print, appropriate size/quality).
Where To Verify

For complete, legally binding requirements and updates, review the AMCC’s Law & Rules page and the Processor rules (see Rule 538‑X‑6‑.05: Labeling and Packaging by Processors).
